Mars and Venus United by Love

Mars and Venus United by LoveArtist: Paolo Veronese (Paolo Caliari)

The name of this art work is titled Mars and Venus by love. It was created by Paolo Veroenese around 1570. ( The exact time of that the painting was created is unknown). The painting shows Mars the man with the armor unifying his love for the women on the left named venous. In the painting we see cupid who portrayed by the little bay with the wings. Hes tying what seems like a pink rage around both Venus and Mars legs as a sign of love.  In the painting we also see lush tress which good symbolize good health. Furthermore we see a horse in the background. We can see the muscle fibers on the horse, thus the horse can symbolize strength. Also we see another cupid in the background holding a sword cross way, that could symbolize defense probably from the evil looking statue at the back. We can tell that the statue is evil just by looking at its face. Further more we see Venus holding her breast which can symbolize fertility. This painting has vivid colors and textures. Such as Venus being painted in lighter colors. We can tell by the colors that is was painted with oil paint . We also see that the artist used scale in his painting to depict that something is Thur away. For instance the horse and the other cupid was painted smaller to make it seem that they were further away. Mars and Venus Untied by Love was create d by Paolo Veronese in Northern Italy during the Renaissance.

The Companions of Rinaldo

The Companions of Rinaldo

Artist: Nicolas Poussin (French, Les Andelys 1594–1665 Rome)
Date: ca. 1633

The Compaionsof Rinaldo was created by Nicolas Poussin Around 1633 during the middle of the Baroque period in Europe. In this painting we see 2 Roman soldiers fighting a small dragon. These soldiers are from different parts of the Roman army. Although they are dressed the same there colors symbolize which branch of the army they are from. The blue color probably symbolize a honor guard which guards the king. The yellow color solider symbolizes the council guard. The dragon problem symbolize a foreign danger to the kingdom where both the king and the council are fighting. We also see a maiden in a boat which can also symbolize Rome conquering new land. This is also an oil painting, But it differs greatly form Renaissance painting. we see this in the artist use of darker colors and my darker plain background. and a cloudy sky. The artist also used scale to make objects seem further away. For instance the women and the boat were drawn smaller to look like they where further away. As you can see this is an example of baroque art which symbolize Roman power during that time period. The Companions of Reinaldo differ greatly from the art work during the Renaissance we see this by darker colors portraying a darker feel towards the painting.

 1. Describe several ways that artist unify their work:                                                                         Artist have different ways to unified their art.  Unity in an artwork creates a sense of harmony and wholeness,it can be shown by using similar elements within the composition and placing them in a way that brings them all together. Visual unity is used by artist to complete their art. They also use implied lines to suggest visual connections. Another way artist use unity is in atmospheric perceptive which is a nonlinear way for giving an illusion of depth . Take picture on the right it is a atmospheric painting by Shen Zue a Chinese artist 1427-1509 A.D. Its depicts a person admiring the view in the of the environment from afar. It shows an atmospheric

2. Describe how a artist creates asymmetrical balance:                                                                                        Asymmetrical balance are two side that differs from one another yet elements are arranged so a sense of balance can be viewed. Basically the left side of the artwork is different from the right. The imagine on the right was created by an unknown artist, if you were to divide the painting down the middle the right side would not look as the left side both in color and shape. This is called a Asymmetrical.
3. How can scale change the meaning of a artwork:                                                                                                                                                               Scale can change the meaning of an artwork focuses on the more important bigger object. also smaller objects may seem further away.  Take the artwork below the girl in the picture    seems closer because the artist drew her bigger. by drawing the houses smaller it can be seen like they are further away. This is an example of changing the meaning of an artwork because of scale.

Assignment #1: Egyptian and Greek & Roman styles

Image result for egyptian artwork               Egyptian differs greatly from Greek artwork. For instance when one examines a piece of Egyptian art they say symmetry.  Take the sculpture on top it is a bust of an Egyptian queen. it was perfectly sculpted to show that one side of her face is equal to the other. Furthermore it can be seen that she s a women because of her risen cheek bones and her hat. We know this because Egyptian kings  wore a different style of hat and also had a jewelry coming out from there chin. Furthermore when it comes to Egyptian art they do not fully revel nudity, in which the Greek do. Egyptian art also has various pretrials of half human and creatures, like a hawk and head on a human body. These kinds of art would symbolize Egyptian gods.

Greek artworks are very different then Egyptian art. For one thing Greeks at that time idealize the human body and showed the human body fully nude in most of their paintings and sculptures. Furthermore unlike Egyptian art they see the their gods and goddess as humans wielding great amounts of power. Like Zeus the god of thunder, when people visualize Zeus they see a strong older gentlemen wielding spear of lighting, which symbolizes his power. Also most of geek sculptures where created using lime stones or granite where as Egyptians sculptures used local rocks from the area

As one can see both Greek and Egyptian art differ in many ways but they still have lots in common. For instance they both uses sculptures as a way to view the human body and to idealize there gods.  Furthermore mostly only the wealthy can have them self sculpted or painted. Also as with all art it was a way for them to express themselves and there believes.
